About Us

When Seconds Count Experience Matters

In dentistry, oral surgeons are considered to be the foremost experts in managing medical emergencies.  But have you ever wondered about  how many medical emergencies they have actually encountered?   That's where we're different.

Our company was founded by Erik, a National Registry and Certified Flight Paramedic with over 30 years of 9-1-1 experience.  In that time, he has responded to thousand's of medical emergencies.  The bottom line is this: who would you trust more to take care of your family member during an emergency?  An oral surgeon, or a flight paramedic?

Our Story

When I took over Have Dummy Will Travel, Inc., our parent company, I had the opportunity to meet and talk with hundreds of dentists in the the Greater New York Metro Area.  I provided CPR and AED training in offices, for Dental Societies and Study Clubs-- even the Academy of General Dentistry.  As an added service, our instructors would always check our clients' emergency response kits for expiration, safety and completeness.

I couldn't help but notice the rarity of an adequate and complete kit.  Although many were purchased from a trusted vendor, the kits contained medications that were packaged in expensive delivery devices that were actually less effective, or simply were wrong or unnecessary.  Unused, expired medications were plentiful.  It hurt my heart to see the hundreds upon hundreds of dollars every year unnecessarily spent.  Having worked in publicly-funded EMS systems in several states, I was very familiar with these medications, and knew that they came in less expensive and more effective packages.

In my hundreds of conversations, I also noticed that even the best and most qualified dentists would not be very comfortable using these medications, or handling a medical emergency.     My mission has become threefold:

1.  To instill the confidence to act in a medical emergency until EMS arrives.

Having confidence will help you actually perform what is expected of you by the ADA, AGD and public at large in a medical emergency.  The best way to gain confidence in a skill is to practice it over and over again.  Therefore, I provide training classes for dentists and their teams to learn about their drug kits, and to work as a well oiled machine in the stress of an emergency.

2.  Ensure the proper equipment and supplies are available to handle that emergency.

Keeping supplies affordable lowers the barrier of cost.  I do this by providing easy-to-use medications that are packaged more efficiently, appropriate for the emergency at hand, and generally more effective.  I also offer maintenance agreements at no additional cost to ensure medications and AED pads are never expired.

3. Improve quality of care

Preparedness and organization is the key to excellent performance and staying calm in the stress of a medical emergency.  To that end, I provide kits that are color coded according to emergency type, include quick reference instructions for each medication, and utilize simple to operate syringes and dosing methods for pediatrics.  If you encounter a medical emergency in the office, I can provide services to help debrief you and your team, and find ways to improve for the next time.
